The New Foursquare – Checking Out From Check-Ins and Into Exploration!
Ever since Foursquare introduced Swarm, a few months back, a new update on the parent app has been expected. Foursquare split the main app into Swarm, which is solely concerned with check-ins and Foursquare, which is to be an exploration app.
Talk of the new update has been around for quite a while and we were looking forward to how the brand would place its new app. Well, two days ago, our prayers were answered. Foursquare has gone and completely and utterly changed everything that you found familiar about the app. Starting with the logo.

Facebook’s New Right Column Ads – Bigger, Better and More Expensive
In the past few weeks, you might have noticed the bigger ads on Facebook’s right hand column. Facebook recently redesigned their right-hand column ad product. Here is what you need to know about this change.
With the aim to “give advertisers a more engaging creative canvas“ as well as to improve the overall experience for Facebook users, they came up with this new ad product, which is almost twice the size of the previous version. Now, bigger ads means fewer ads on the page, so that would mean advertisers will have to bid higher, as the ad space is lesser, increasing competition. That is to say that, now the number of impressions your ad gathers will be lesser for the same amount, that you spent earlier.
It’s not all bad though, as Facebook assures us “it is our belief that the overall value delivered through this more engaging ad format will offset any potential decreases in impressions.” Based on the test runs that Facebook had for this new format, the level of engagement that these ads gather is much higher that the smaller ones, and hence the difference in expense will be offset by the level of engagement created.
Let’s hope for the best with this new ad design. What do you think about it? Please do drop in your thoughts in the comments.

Foursquare’s Swarm iOS App Is Out With A New Update – Focusing On Your Circles
Foursquare recently split into two, with Swarm being the check-in app, and Foursquare focusing on place discovery. Now, Swarm is out with a new update which features including showcasing leaderboards among your friends on check-ins.
As opposed to the earlier leaderboards on Foursquare and Swarm, where you would compete with anyone and everyone who visited a place to get the highest number of check-ins, now it’s more focused within your circle of friends. This new update also brings about easier sharing to Facebook and Twitter, faster check-ins, and photos of locations you are visiting. The app is also reducing the gamification and being more utility oriented.
Ever since Foursquare has launched Swarm, they seem to be keeping a keen eye on user’s suggestions and feedback, as this update brings about the features that the users wished were available on the app. Although, the app isn’t highly rated on the store (2 stars), their constant endeavour to provide what the users want, is getting them more positive reviews of late.
Only time will tell how successful this split made by Foursquare will be. Have you switched to Swarm yet? What do you think of these new updates? Do drop in your thoughts in the comments.

Facebook Reduces Automatic Updates That are implicitly shared on the news feeds.
Ever been listening to some music, or watching something on a completely different site, and then when you visit Facebook, it says “Mr. X listened to baby got back on Grooveshark”? Although Facebook describes it as ‘surprising’ or ‘confusing’, sometimes it just gets borderline creepy, and hence they are changing that.
