Facebook has been growing rapidly over the past few years and has been trying to be accessible to each and every person in the world. They are continually making sure that they reach out to the remotest corners of the globe. But, their new app, Facebook Mentions is more about exclusivity.
When Facebook began back in 2004, it was all about exclusivity. Only the people who were in Harvard, could join the network. Fast forward to today, Facebook has kept the exclusivity through ensuring that you have the power to choose who you want to connect to.
Not with the new Facebook Mentions though. As they describe it, Facebook Mentions is “A new app that makes it easy for public figures to discover and join conversations on Facebook.“
By ‘Public Figures’, they mean celebrities and other famous people with verified accounts. This app is more about the celebrities sharing their own content than engaging with content by other people.
So these public figures can host their own live Q&A sessions, added to the usual photo and video updates. Now where it gets cooler is that there is a ‘Mentions’ tab. Similar to the one on Twitter, this tab shows all the conversations that have been created about the celebrity, on Facebook. So, they can choose to engage with their fans more conveniently.
Judging by the few reviews that have been submitted on the app store, it’s being received very positively. It could be an entirely different way for celebrities to connect with their audience. What do you think of Facebook Mentions? Do drop in your thoughts in the comments.
